Riazor University Center extension. Institutional commission

The primary goal of this intervention in the Riazor University Center (CUR) is to adapt the existing building to the new regulations on fire safety and accessibility. The second goal is to generate a new access to the building, which could potentially serve as the entrance for the CUR’s future expansion. Formally, the project is an exercise in establishing geometric relations with the CUR, a listed, rationalistic building designed by Antonio Tenreiro. The volume and facades are designed to transition between the different geometric rhythms of Tenreiro’s building. The small patio in the West facade upper level breaks the volume and creates a final reference to the CUR’s clock tower.
